What's This Blog All About?
So first off, here's the big disclaimer: This blog exists to fulfill a grade.
This is the second blog I've created for Penn State's "Writing 4 The Web" course, which is a required course for all Journalism Majors, such as myself. Why is this the SECOND blog I've created for said course? Well, that's because I tried taking this course last year, but dropped it shortly before the first assignment (which I had not completed) was due. By the way, here's MY FIRST BLOG that arguably ended before it truly began.
I had just been made President and Editor-in-Chief of Penn State New Kensington's newspaper The Nittany Pride, and my blog was going to be about my newfound experiences as a leader of others. Unfortunately, I had more on my plate than I could handle at the time, and I made the decision to delay the course until the next year. Now it's the next year, I've passed on my leadership positions to someone more worthy and responsible of them than myself, and I need something new to blog about...
This past Summer, I was part of Joey Travolta's Film Camp for students on the autism spectrum for the second year in a row. By the way, I'm autistic, hence why I was at the camp. Anyway, as part of the camp, I was one of two lucky campers from the "Fantastic Fourth" Room (the room for older campers) whose screenplay was chosen to be eventually be professionally made into an actual film by a third party studio. When that film actually gets made, I have no idea, but that's besides the point. The fact of the matter is that my concept was one of two chosen out of everyone else's, it feels good to know that, and I want to experience that feeling again. I have many more great concepts like the one I pitched at camp, and I want to put those concepts on paper, turn those screenplays into actual films, and build myself a reputation as a quality filmmaker.
What exactly does any of that have to do with this blog though? Well, in order to become a great filmmaker, one must study great (and greatly disastrous) films. And while I can proudly say that I've seen just about everything Star Wars, everything Indiana Jones, everything Marvel Cinematic Universe, everything Wolverine and Deadpool, nearly everything Pixar, nearly everything Kevin Smith, SO MUCH Disney, and every single ounce of ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING How To Train Your Dragon..... There's still so much I have yet to see and learn from.
And that's what this blog is for. At least once a week every week, I'm going to watch various films I have not yet seen that others have told me I need to see (hence the name "The Secondhand Cinephile"), and then critique those films for your and my amusement! So strap in and enjoy the ride as I venture on my quest to become a better movie buff!
